The amount of noise is our life and in our culture is only growing. We need to take advantage of our desert silence, we need to...
be still and know that He is God.

I'm going a bit old school here. Today's devotion and meditation made me think of this is a great video by Rob Bell dealing with silence and hearing God’s voice.

I would recommend downloading this video and watching it a few times during your Lenten journey for meditation and encouragement.

You can watch this video and more Nooma video’s by Rob Bell here, they might be old enough now that you haven't heard of them.

As we end this first full week of our Lenten journey I also wanted to share a few extra verses from the Gospel of Luke that have helped me to think about desert life.

Luke 1:80 // 3:1-6 // 4:1-2

// 1:80
And the child grew and became strong in spirit; he lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel.

// 3:1-6

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar—when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene— during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:

   “A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
   ‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
   make straight paths for him.
Every valley shall be filled in,
   every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
   the rough ways smooth.
And all people will see God’s salvation.’”

// 4:1-2
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
